Hi,

Can AVOBASE be synced between two databases?

Thank-you,

Lynne

Two separate AvoBase databases? Like you are running two different versions, or, you have two separate copies of AvoBase you want to merge together? Or, you want to run two different AvoBases at the same time?

Hi,

I would like to have Avobase on my laptop and on my desktop and be able to sync them together.

Currently there is no syncing of databases when you are running them from two different places. It's a great idea however.

At my house, I have a house server. This is a machine that runs 24hours a day connected to the internal house network. The C:\ drive is mapped as Z:\. The AvoBase Database is stored in Z:\AvoBaseDB. My wife's main machine has AvoBase point at the Z:\AvoBaseDB directory. Her laptop AvoBase also points to the same directory. This way, she can use AvoBase on her main machine, or on her Laptop.

Both directories must be exactly the same. You can't have C:\AvoBase on your main machine, and Z:\AvoBaseDB on your laptop. Both directories must be exactly the same.

This, I am sure, won't work out for you as you may not have a house server.

Here is what you CAN do...

Install AvoBase on your Laptop in C:\AvoBase.

Install AvoBase on your PC in C:\AvoBase.

When you want to use AvoBase on your LAPTOP, go to your PC and ZIP the AvoBase directory (the ENTIRE directory) (or your C:\DataBase directory) and copy that ZIP file onto a THUMB DRIVE. Alternatively, you can zip just the C:\AvoBase\Database directory, as it is where everything is stored.

Go to your laptop and unzip the avobase.zip (or Database.zip) file directly over the top of your C:\AvoBase directory (or C:\AvoBase\DataBase).

Run AvoBase as desired.

When you are ready to use your PC, reverse the process. Zip the C:\AvoBase directory back into a zip file, copy it to a THUMB DRIVE, and unzip it over the top of your C:\AvoBase directory on your PC.

This way, you will be synced.
